I am a structural engineer with two decades of experience and a passion for creative problem-solving, technology, and design. Five years ago, I began exploring 3D printing as a hobby and an outlet for my creative energy. What started as a personal interest quickly evolved into a passion for designing and creating custom solutions.
My first printer was a Kywoo Tycoon, a gift from my brother-in-law. While it required plenty of calibration and troubleshooting, the experience taught me the fundamentals of 3D printing and design. During that time, I created custom storage trays for the Firefly board game along with various other projects and accessories.
As my skills grew, I upgraded to a Creality K1 and began designing and printing more ambitious projects. Many of my early designs were created for my gaming group, Epic LAN Party, including custom keychains, commemorative coins, and other personalized items. One project in particular sparked my interest in custom product design: creating headphone stands that incorporated our group’s logo. The finished products received enthusiastic feedback and helped showcase the possibilities of custom-designed 3D printed products.
As opportunities expanded, I invested in my current production printer, a Bambu Lab H2D with AMS 2 Pro. This allowed me to take on more complex projects, including a semi-functional display model of one of my employer’s proprietary industrial valves for use at a sales conference. The model featured an opening access door with magnetic latches, a manually operated actuator, and a functioning seated gate that could open and close. The final product successfully demonstrated the valve’s operation while serving as an engaging sales and marketing tool.
Today, I continue to combine engineering principles with creative design to develop custom 3D printed products, prototypes, display models, gaming accessories, and personalized items. I am currently exploring additional opportunities to create industrial display models and expand my portfolio of custom designs, including accessories for tabletop gaming and Magic: The Gathering.
